... but this was something he knew for sure she had done. After all, she had once had a family of her own.

“A couple of years ago,” she flatly responded, her frow twitching, “It was a colleague of mine and I was feeling very lonely. Nothing else came of it. I wouldn’t let it.”

Michael squeezed his eyes as he let the pain through.

But that was fine. He couldn’t blame his mom.

    “And since?” he asked.

“Nothing.” Yasmine dipped her shoulders so minutely that Michael almost didn’t catch on to the fact that she had shrugged. “As a cow, getting invitations is never hard. But I just can’t.”

So she was actively suppressing herself? A part of Michael was happy to hear that, but another part of him felt bad for his mom.

“What about your, um, sexual needs?” Michael asked.

“What about them?” Yasmine flatly replied, starting to frown.

“Don’t you, I don’t know, feel the need to have sex?” he said, frowning at how vulgar he sounded. He, however, had to know.

“All the time,” she replied, “I miss the heat of having another at my side, the scent and presence of a man.”

    This was good?

“Have you ever…been with a human?” the human boy asked. He needed to know if he, at ...
... least, was compatible with her.

“Yes,” Yasmine answered, “Before I met my husband. Back when I was not serious about my life.”

“Did...you like it?” Michael forced himself to ask.

Yasmine’s were still glazed over, but they seemed to turn and look him in the eye. “Yes.”

Michael let out a breath as some relief flooded in.

“So you like humans?” the boy pressed.

“They are pleasing to the eye,” Yasmine replied.

Michael nodded at that and then took a deep breath. It was time to ask the hard questions.

“What about me?” Michael asked her.

“What about you, hon?” his mother asked, notes of tenderness bleeding through the monotony of her voice.

“Have you ever considered me?” her son asked, “You know, for sex?”

Yasmine went quiet for a few moments.

“...no,” She answered after a while. It was about what Michael expected, but it still hurt.

“But what if,” he found himself asking, “-I wasn’t your son? What then?”

He knew for a fact that some women found him attractive, but who was to say that he was his mother’s type? Not that it would stop him, but hehad to know.

“It wouldn’t matter,” his mother replied. “Nothing would matter. Without you, life...
