... yet. I was halfway down the fence line when Daisy appeared from behind. She reached around and hit the kill switch.
Her smile said it all. "He wants to come home." The way she said it explained how she felt. I knew then that she wanted him involved.
"What did he say when he found out I was involved?"
"He was shocked." She said, her eyes not meeting mine. "Once I explained everything. He said he'd need to talk to us. Mostly you."
"When is he coming?" I asked nervously.
"He's already on his way." The way she snuggled in to me. Her head nuzzling in against my neck.
"It'll be okay Sasha. He isn't a bad person. He's just not very smart."
"If you think he can do it, then I don't have an issue."
"He isn't smart in like a business sense, or dealing with people. He is good at growing things. He was always meant to work the land. You know some people are good with people, and some people aren't."
"Yeah, I know. It's how he deals with us. Whether he'll accept you and me being the boss."
She laughed. "That might be hard for him to accept. He's a man, they always think they know best."
"I'm not letting him walk in and take over Daisy. I'd rather lose everything. This is our dream. Think about it, he couldn't be bothered. He walked away leaving you to face everything."
"No, I won't let him. He did try Sasha, he's just not good with finances or business. He did organize the mortgage. He simply didn't have the wherewithal to see it through. Once he ...
... started selling off the equipment. There was no coming back."
"It's what you want isn't it, having him involved I mean?"
She nodded hesitantly. "Yes, after our parents died. It was Jeremy, and me. We had to grow up fast and try to make it work. Dad, screwed it all up when he sold off the land. Although. Maybe he should have sold the whole farm and moved into town."
"We'll make it work. Make them proud." She hugged me again, and it was so obvious she still loved her brother. Regardless of the mistakes he made. They were blood, and it clearly meant a lot to her."
It was a busy day. We packed away the equipment, and were in the kitchen. We saw his car pull up outside. Strangely, he didn't look anything like I pictured. He shared a lot with Daisy, so obviously brother and sister.
She dropped the spoon on the bench and ran out to greet him. She jumped into his arms and he swung her around like a carousel. She laughed loudly screaming for him to put her down.
There was some hushed talking, and he glanced worriedly towards the house. He nodded at something and they walked inside.
"Sasha, this is my brother Jeremy."
I held out my hand. "Hello Jeremy, nice to put a face to the voice."
He was more nervous than me. I could see he didn't know what to say. "Hey..."
He glanced back at Daisy, before adding. "I know this is stupid, but I'm sorry for what happened. We shouldn't have done it."
"It's water under the bridge, Jeremy. I hope we can be friends." I replied ...
