... I carried it to the station. Danny only had a shoulder bag, so he had both arms free! I hoped he had clothes at home because his bag wouldn't even hold one change of clothes for me.

Danny didn't stop grumbling until we were on the train. We found bench seats facing each other and I stretched out my legs to rest my feet beside Danny and sighed in relief. It had been a long morning... Sandra wanted to lounge in my bed this morning, among other much more satisfying things, just as much as I did. She'd left only an hour before I expected Danny to show. He watched as I stacked magazines beside me.Cosmopolitan...Southern Bride...Bridal Guide...Martha Stewart's Wedding...Danny shook his head and pulled out a Sci-Fi paperback. His legs didn't quite make it when he tried to prop his feet on the seat next to me.

    "Danny?"

    "Yes?"

"Do you mind that I'm taller than you?"

"No, of course not. I mean, I don't think I'm short at five-nine and there's nothing going to change the fact you're three inches taller than me," Danny shrugged and smiled. "Besides, when you're wearing heels it's great watching guys react when you put your arm over my shoulders, and I put my hand on your waist."

We read for a while in silence. As I changed magazines...

    "Danny?"

    "Yes?"

"I hope your mom likes me."

"Why does it matter? You'll probably never see her again."

"Danny, youcan't be this dense. You're bringing a girlfriend home to meet her for the first time during awedding," I ...
... explained to the dunce. "Far as she's concerned, your mom is wondering if we'll announce our engagement."

    "What? No way!"

"Of course not. This weekend is all about the bride! It would be the height of bad taste to do anything that takes attention away from her. No," I turned the page of my magazine and considered the matter carefully. "The weekendafter your sister returns from her honeymoon is when we would announce our engagement."

"Whoa! Hey, wait... Who said anything aboutengagement," Danny demanded.

    "I'm just saying."

"Well, stop saying! Jeez, you confuse me. Stop it."

I smiled and turned another page. He was so easy to confuse. Danny huffed and returned to his paperback.

    "Danny?"

"Oh, God... Yes, Olivia," Danny asked in a resigned tone.

"Why does your family think you're gay?"

"I'm not..." Danny looked around and lowered his voice. "I'm not gay! I just... I didn't date much in high school after Carolyn if you must know. I had a crush on her all through junior high and after she crapped all over me, I didn't trust girls for a while. Okay? Satisfied? Besides, I'm working full-time during the week during Summer with part-time jobs at night and on the weekends. During school, I'm carrying eighteen credit hours while working two part-time jobs to graduate without a mountain of student debt. Even if I had the money, I don't have the time to date."

Poor Danny... He sounded like many of my clients. Too busy to have fun. Then I started thinking about ...
