... you stayed the night...if you want to..."

He smiled at her and climbed onto the bed as he reached for the switch to turn out the lights. "I was hoping you'd say that" he whispered with a little grin as he wrapped his arms around her, and the pair snuggled up together.

Within moments, the only sound in the room was their soft breathing as they fell asleep in each other's arms.

As the first light of dawn filtered through the curtains of the hotel room, Marcus awoke. As he recalled the events of the previous evening, he turned his head to look at Sigrid lying next to him, still asleep. He had never woken up next to such a beautiful woman, but he knew in his heart that last night had been her looking for a release from all the pain, tension and frustration that had marked her marriage over the past months.

Part of him wished that they could continue what they had started last night but he was also a realist. He was a proud African-American man, a New Yorker, someone who had dreams to pursue. She was a married woman, a Nordic woman from a country half a world away, a good woman who wanted a life that her husband seemed unwilling to give her. Then, one day, he giving her the most precious gift he could, the thing that she had been seeking in her own marriage, the gift of life. He could imagine her being a loving and doting mother to their child raising them in a unique blend of African-American and Nordic beliefs and traditions.

He focused returned to the present; he knew he shouldn't think like that, this was a married woman that he hardly knew, a person who in all likelihood he would never see again in an hour or two. Still, it was a nice dream, he mused. Although he was attractive, his dating life had been fairly stagnant lately, thanks to the demands and growth of his startup for the past several years; most of the women he had dated previously had envisioned him as a pathway to a comfortable life for them.

As he lay there, he thought about how nice it would be coming home to someone like Sigrid. Smart, witty, and attractive, not to mention possessing a down to earth aspect to her that he found very appealing. Unfortunately, she was a married woman. He'd always made it a personal philosophy not to date married women, but he'd broken that last night with Sigrid. He knew he should probably leave, make it easy for them, the end of a one-night stand, but something held him back. Perhaps a shower would help clear his mind, he thought.

With a soft and slightly regretful sigh, he gently ...
