Millie's face went pale, and fear overcame her. She sat there quietly, not wanting to speak.

"You've kept this from me; why? Speak to me, Millie."

"Please don't be mad, but I've known for a few years and thought I was able to handle it. I knew you would not understand and would be hurt and angry. I mean, you're such a strong man; we knew you wouldn't understand and might do something that would hurt him mentally for the rest of his life. I had to protect him, and since he wasn't hurting anyone, there was no harm. I wanted to tell you, but to be honest, I was afraid."

Brock sat there angry at first but then overcome with a feeling of guilt. He knew she was right and felt guilty that his wife was afraid to tell him something this important. For the next few minutes, they sat there quietly, just staring out at the sun going down over the lake.
