I called Ronnie right after I hung up as although I was really excited, I was also a little nervous, as I hardly knew George. Ronnie laughed and told me that George had told him he was thinking about doing all that and of course I should go, his house was like nothing I would have seen before and right on the beach. He assured me I didn't have to worry about anything as George was completely solid, very successful and, he chuckled, would not be interested in me as he was openly gay. I had to choke back my laughter and feigned a cough before hanging-up saying I had to rush. I laughed out loud the minute I ended the call and Rob popped his head around the door to ask me what was so funny. I told him what Ronnie had said. He shrugged and went down to the barn where he was working on things for the Rodeo. He had been a bit off with me recently, like I was irritating him, or not saying or doing what he wanted. I suspected that he resented the rather special and emotional relationship I had developed with Eileen, but at the back of my mind it did occur to me that it was when I was at my girliest that he seemed to have a problem with me.
