LIFE AND JOY IN SAN DIEGO:ANDREA POV

The past two weeks have been amazing, with Ryna, Head Chef Bill and I fully in charge. Business is off the charts, but the three of us insist onRM-Wilson taking a second week off with his wife, Ramona, and their new baby girl.

After Mom and Dad Amesen return home to San Francisco, Emerald, and Everette stay in San Diego indefinitely working from their hotel suite.

Ryna and I are now good friends with the two young ladies but do not have a lot of time to enjoy ourselves, with the restaurant so busy. We share a few lunches and they visit Ruth's Happy Hour early, before the after-work crowd streams in.

Everette comes in on Mondays, helping Ryna with inventory, so they can talk alone. I'm thrilled with their evolving friendship since they've both previously only had Emerald and me as close friends.

So, in two weeks, whenRM-Wilson returns from his wife's maternity leave, we four friends are taking a week's vacation somewhere nice. ...

... Ryna and I had originally planned for Vegas, but there are now four of us, so we'll jointly choose our vacation spot.

RM Wilson, his wife Ramona, and their new daughter will stay in San Diego for 10-days while Ryna and I vacation with Emerald/Everette. He'll assist Head Chef Bill and two other junior line managers in running the restaurant while we're away.

Dawn and Tevy are off the rails happy sinceRM-Wilson asks Auntie Bev and the Academy to schedule another 4-dayHospitality In Motion course for the girls while Ryna and I vacation.

We're considering a cruise, a trip to Vegas or Hawaii, and a few other vacation sites, deciding next week. The vacation will just be us four ladies, so we worry about being pestered daily by guys on a cruise.

Yet we like the idea of having everything in one place. So. we're searching for the in-between level of a Party versus a Disney-type family cruise. In the end, we choose a five-day cruise to Hawaii, then staying on Maui for three days and flying back to San Diego.

Head Chef Bill supports Ryna and me having a nice relaxing vacation now. He'll book his time off when we return since the three of us are now comfortable being the Senior Store Managers.

Ryna and I know this will likely be our last extended time off together for the next 15 to 20 months. But we'll both occasionally have 2 days off, understanding that managing a hospitality service-based business requires sacrifice.
