... centuries since the discovery of antibiotics, but a simple cut on her hand took Molly away from me. At the age of only 46, she died from a native infection that’s untreatable with any drug from Earth. I didn’t discover the plant compound which can fight it until it was years too late.

When Molly passed, I professionally dictated notes of the symptoms, exactly what I had tried, and the results. I walked home and calmly told my family Molly was gone. After that, I sat on my bed alone and cried for weeks. I still miss her terribly.

Today I learned that making Sarah with Professor Morse and implanting her in Molly was the best thing I ever did. Sarah discovered a method for creating ARTIFICIAL WORMHOLES! With more work, it could make interstellar and even intergalactic travel take minutes or hours, instead of centuries or eons! Next month, she's launching a probe that might let us send messages to Earth and back in seconds, instead of 80 years!

    Epilogue

It took humans half a million years to live on two planets and a few moons and asteroids, instead of just Earth. Another three centuries raised the total to ten inhabited planets around six stars. In the next hundred years, using Sarah Wallace's discovery, the number jumped to over a thousand. Spread across dozens of galaxies, humanity became extinction-proof at last.
