She bit into a piece of honeyed ham and let her mind start to drift. It went back to where things all began. With Lucas, of course. Two years prior, Haden and Andrew had moved into their first real home together. It wasn't a mansion, but to Haden, it felt pretty close. They'd moved from his home in Connecticut where they'd lived for two years. Andrew had gotten a job offer with a wine distributor that was far too good to pass up. But with both of them making good money and Haden's job allowing her to work from almost anywhere, they decided to take a chance and move to New Orleans. They took a trip there first and spent a week. The city of New Orleans was like nothing she'd ever seen outside of Europe. The culture, the history, the weather, the people were all so vibrant and immediate. It actually frightened her a little. The other cities she'd lived in seemed little more than places where her life took place. But New Orleans seemed to live and breathe around her. ... That had been hard to do. She'd had a rough time in college, a few strained years. Meeting Andrew had been a guide post though and she'd made it through with his help. He'd been a life preserver in that tropical storm within her soul. But nothing could prepare her for the upheaval that would be New Orleans. They bought a house in the Lakeshore neighborhood. It was a beautiful four bedroom house just a short walk from the lakefront. The house was at the end of a loop that held ten houses and she looked forward to meeting her new neighbors. Right away, she liked Penny. Penny and Bell owned the house to their left. Bell owned a pair of auto dealerships and Penny was a stay at home mom.
