... coffee. “Morning.” Her voice was ragged and raw. “None for me though, thank you. I've got to get home.” “I understand.” Jules followed Haden through the kitchen and into the living room. “Let me keep you for just a minute though.” Haden stopped halfway through the living room, still carrying her shoes in one hand and rubbing her temples with the other. Jules sat down on the sofa, crossed her legs and sipped her coffee. Haden laughed at how composed and manicured she looked even having just awoken. Jules was like someone out of a magazine or a 50s movie. “What's up?” As she asked, Haden remembered coming back to the apartment and speaking briefly with Jules and Terra before they'd gone to bed. What had been said? It was all a fog. Jules looked at Haden with a mix of pity and judgment and Haden had the urge to slap her. She was in no mood for a lecture. Jules said, “I don't know how much you remember about what you said last night or if you still feel the same way. It's okay either way. No hard feelings. But I want to give you an real, honest warning. It's not a threat or anything and I really hope you don't take it that way.” Haden looked at her in a way that let Jules knew that she wanted her to get on with it. She can get...obsessive.” Jules could see it was having no effect on Haden. Jules sighed. ...
... “Alright. That's all I had to say. Goodbye, Haden. Despite last night, you're still welcome here.” Haden couldn't quite figure out how to take Jules comment or how to respond. She just said, “Thanks,” flatly and left quietly. It wasn't until she got outside that she realized that she didn't have her car. Hanging her head and sitting on the curb, she dialed for a cab. She had ten minutes to kill sitting on that curb and she really hoped that neither Jules nor Terra noticed her there and came out. Haden just desperately wanted to go home, take a bath, eat something greasy and go to sl**p. Sitting on the curb, her bare feet on the warm street, she realized she hadn't seen any notifications of texts from Andrew. Going into the app, she saw that there had been no texts from him since before she'd left the previous night. Checking the voicemails, she was dismayed to see that there were none. She swallowed in apprehension as she checked the last place she could think of: The call log. There it was, a call from Andrew at 4:24am. It was a nine minute call. Oh god, she thought. What had been said? The cab pulled up and she gave the cabbie the name of the club where she and Terra had started the night before. She only hoped that they hadn't club hopped in between. Thankfully, her car was still there, un-ticketed even. She climbed in, feeling a renewed sense of dread for going home and facing her husband. What would be her strategy? She gnawed at her lower lip as she sat in the car. Opening ...
