... even consider this. Tears welled up in her eyes and she joined our embrace. "I love you guys," she cried. "I never expected anyone to have such an impact on me, much less a couple, but you have. I'm so happy right now I don't know what to say." What an emotional roller coaster this night has been, I thought. I had finally found happiness and I was determined to hang onto it, no matter what Susan's plans were. We made love, the three of us together, one more time before Megan had to leave. We made some plans ourselves before she left, though. We were going to get together through the week to figure out how we wanted our new relationship to work. We all agreed that we had to establish some simple ground rules so that no one would be left out. Foremost in my mind was Lucy's feelings. I didn't want to do anything that would make her uncomfortable and I would make that clear to all of us when we got together. The next morning I had a talk with Lucy about the text message before I left for work. "Lucy, I don't want you to even think about that text from Susan. I've made up my mind about it, but I need to check on something at work before I reply to it." Lucy's lip trembled as she spoke. "Frank, how do you expect me to forget about it? She's your wife, after all. She has some say in how things go forward." "Lucy," I said in my calmest voice. "You can forget about it because I choose you. I want you in my life for as long as you want me. Even if it means I have to tell Susan that ...
... I want a divorce in a text message." "Frank, are you saying what I think you're saying?" "Yes, Lucy, I am. Last night, and all the nights we've shared, have shown me that you love me for being me, and I am a fool if I let some cold-hearted ice queen keep me from my happiness. I'm telling my boss when I go in that I plan to divorce Susan. He said he'll support me in anything I do, so now it's time for him to back it up." When I got to work I called Jan and asked if I could get a few minutes with Dr. Browning. Jan was able to clear a few minutes on his schedule and I hurried over to his office. I explained to him that I wanted no part of my wife moving out here and was prepared to file for divorce. Then I took a chance. I told him about Lucy and how I had found happiness with her. I felt I owed it to him to explain my situation. After all, he had invested a lot of time and money on me to come in and run my department. Now I waited to hear his reaction. "Frank," he began. "I told you just yesterday that I would support you in any decision you made in your personal life, and I haven't changed my mind about that. You have nothing to worry about, Frank. I'm a firm believer that what you do here at work is my business but that your personal life is none of my business as your boss. However, as your friend I want you to know that I will do anything to help you during this period of, let's say, difficulty. Anything you need from me, Frank, you've got it. Will that be okay with you?" ...
