They met in their sophomore year of high school, shortly after they turned sixteen. Two loners who somehow found each other, Jim and Amy became fast friends and did everything together. They attended high school sporting events, dances and other school activities. Occasionally they would kiss, and maybe pet a little, but basically theirs was a platonic friendship. The night of their graduation, after tiptoeing around the margins for a long time, they finally consummated their relationship. All summer they explored their sexuality and each other. But in the fall, they went to college. Jim left and went east, Amy stayed at home and attended a local college. They saw each other occasionally during school breaks, but didn’t pursue their romantic relationship any further. Fast forward to six years after college – time for their ten-year high school reunion. Amy was standing by the punch bowl when she looked up and saw Jim walk into the room. Even though it had been years, she knew him instantly. He looked around the room, and then his eyes lit up as he spotted her. He walked over to her and she handed him a glass of punch. “I’m so glad you made it,” she said. “I hadn’t heard if you were coming or not.” “I wouldn’t miss it for the world,” he replied. “Would you like to dance?” “I’d love to.” They set their glasses down and walked out onto the dance floor. I think he might have purposely scheduled it that way!” She laughed. “Where are you staying?” “I’m here in this hotel. My parents moved east to live near the kids and my wife and I, so I didn’t have a place to stay here.” “You have kids?” “Two – a four year old boy and a little girl who will be one in a few weeks.” She smiled. “Oh, how wonderful! We haven’t gotten around to starting a family yet. But probably in the not too distant future.” “Would you like to come up to my suite for a night cap? I could have some appetizers sent up to munch on.” “I’d really like that.” They got in the elevator together and rode up to Jim’s floor. They both felt the tension between them, and Amy laughed nervously a couple of times as they walked to his room and went inside. He called room service and ordered appetizers and a bottle of wine. “I hope you don’t mind if I take off my tie and jacket,” he said. “I’m not ...
