... the library door. Careful not to look like we were jumping to hide what we were doing, we casually went back to our work. She was followed in by two officers, and they all stood in front of Jeremy's side of the counter. Jane had her hands on her hips and was smirking, and the officers has a set of cuffs and Jeremy's belongings in a clear bag. I knew they were Jeremy's belongings, because I could clearly see inside the bag an Incredible Hulk action figure. Shit. I knew what this was. "Well Jeremy, you got what you wanted," Jane sneered, as the officers for some reason let her be the master of ceremonies in this situation, instead of them taking charge, "You're off to open prison. Right now." She waited expectantly for the adulation, as if she was the Queen of England and had just pardoned someone from getting their head chopped off. They always did spring it on the prisoners like this. It stopped them telling people on the outside when they were going to be 'in transit'. I had known it would be this week, and was not allowed to tell him, and I hadn't. However, Jane had clearly known it was going to be this morning. And I was the reason he was going. The officers came behind the counter, and he instinctively put his hands behind his back. They cuffed him. We dare not say anything more to each other with the dragon observing, but he gave me a look as the officers escorted him out, one in front and one behind. His face was like a puppy dog's who'd just had his favourite bone taken away, all big eyes and raised eyebrows. I think mine was much the same. Jane watched us both intently, taking in our pining faces and doe eyes to each other. And off he went, into the prison van with it's tiny blacked out windows, out of the front gate, down to the other side of the county to our area's open prison, and out of my life. I was left in the library, alone, with Jane who would surely continue to bully me, and no Jeremy to help make it OK. I tried my damned hardest not to well up again. ----- I ended up complaining about Jane's behaviour. I wasn't sure what else to do, as I was stuck in there alone with her with no support. I contacted our line manager, who worked at the service headquarters, and told her about everything. The swearing. The false accusations. The setting me up to fail. I presented the diaries I'd been keeping of the pattern of ...
