... interrupt her. "It's a small town. Most people know everybody. They talk. And they always talk to their doctor. I hear all the gossip eventually." He was about to begin again when a lady, a bit older than Evelyn entered the shaded patio. "Ah, here is June," he said as he kissed her cheek, "June, you remember Evelyn Bishop and this is her friend Tess. Would you ladies mind if we joined your table? I'd like to talk to Tess for a moment." "No, not at all," said Evelyn after getting a confirming nod from Tess. The waitress was summoned and after a short discussion the party of now four moved to a larger table right on the railing of the patio where the view was even better. The Doctor ordered a bottle of wine and Tess decided to not drink any more after this glass as she had an hours drive home. They all ordered a meal each and then the Doctor began. "Now from what I have heard Tess, your husband and yourself are looking for a lifestyle change. Now Dave, I hope you don't mind me being so informal, is a general practitioner. I have done a little checking around, I have my sources, and he is a very good doctor too from what I'm told. Now what I want to propose to him through you is, I need to wind back a bit. I just have to do something and if there was a good doctor looking for work and I didn't ask I would be remiss, wouldn't I? Anyway let's enjoy our lunch and speak of other things. And call me Lou, there is no need for another doctor's wife to be formal is there?" "Okay, Lou, how long have you and June been living here?" Tess asked. June cut in, "We came up here the week after Lou graduated as a doctor. He was twenty four, so fifty two years. There aren't many people walking around this town under fifty two years of age that Lou hasn't brought into this world," she said proudly of her husband, "He came here as an intern and forgot to leave." Tess found the rest of the meal a bit of a blur. Plans were flying around in her head. Her job was promising. Dave was being offered a practice. His practice back in the city could be split amongst the other doctors who could continue to pay rent on the clinic that she and Dave owned. They had the apartment they could ...
