... there had been an aspect of his own inwardness, unknown even to him, laying in wait, an aspect that shot to the surface and told him immediately, even from fifty feet away, that Claire was a kindred spirit, unlike any he had ever met. When she first smiled at him, something in him felt instantly at home. He peered into her smile, her light, and the breath of her first “Yes” as if in search of their origin. And now once more he re-immersed himself in that search. He opened his heart wide and then there thundered into his mind the words, “Siegfried, Act Three, Scene Three.” He realized then, that with these few words, which he had heard spoken only a few hours ago, something had poured into Claire’s soul as an elevating stimulus, and in turn, it was rendered by her as marvelous tones of such high praise. Every time I leave him, even after the exchange of just a few simple words, I walk away with the impression that I’ve experienced something rare and unique. I was such a bird when I started to study violin with him. Without his wise guidance I never would have entered something as practical as nursing.” “Even just listening to you,” he reflected, “It seems as if he is familiar. Just like it seems I’ve known you already for decades, when I’ve only just met you today at the library.” “Well…” she then stopped herself, and sat up suddenly, as if gripped by a new realization. She stared blankly ahead for just a moment; it morphed into astonishment and then came that wonderful Claire smile. “It was not until just now that I realized that he told me about you already ...
