... that the girl would be more interested in making sure she looked beautiful at the end of the game. Yet as the game wore on she found her to be strong in the tackle and good on the ball. Holly got increasingly frustrated, especially when she felt the other girl was patronising her by telling her what a good game she had played. Holly had vowed that she was going to beat the blonde and her team whatever it took in the rematch. There were two minutes left on the clock and the Blues were on the attack. They needed to score to win the league and win promotion with the match being locked at three goals each. Holly had already scored twice from routines she had practiced relentlessly over the past months. She received the ball and looked up, just two defenders to beat. Charlie felt sick, really sick. She also felt like something had just exploded in her brain. Her eyes winced at the light as she heard worried voices around her. Suddenly she started to realise she was laid in the middle of a crowd of people but she didn’t really remember why. She tried to push herself up but the coach shouted at her to stay still. Then she heard the sirens and before she knew it some paramedics were treating her. They put her head into a rest and strapped her very carefully into a stretcher. All of this made Charlie worried and confused. She felt the stretcher being lifted and heard some of her team-mates wishing her well as she was carried into the ambulance. She heard one door shut and then what sounded like an argument outside. The captain of her team was telling the other captain that she should leave Charlie alone and that she had done enough. She then ...
