She had agreed with Debra’s mother to buy the contract when Debra had been thirteen but the actual fee was placed in a fund to accumulate interest until Debra could be legitimately enslaved after her eighteenth birthday. As a result of her wise investments in Debra’s fee she had mostly returned the loan to Lady Mathom and yet was able to donate the agreed upon fee whilst retaining a substantial amount for Debra’s education and future prospects. Since she had been instrumental in Eleanor’s acquisition of Debra, Lady Mathom had taken a great deal of interest in her and always grilled Eleanor regarding her whenever the two met.
