The Night

It was the summer of 1962, early june. I was 14 years old that spring. Hadn’t yet had a serious girlfriend or my first real kiss. That was about to change. My father travelled a lot and was gone a lot during the week for 3 or 4 days at a time. me and Mom spent a lot of time together during those days and were really close. At 35 Mom was a beautiful woman with dark black hair and green eyes and the same cheerleader body she had in school. But we were a very conservative f****y and the most I had ever seen of her was in her bikini sunbathing. We both jumped at the sight of this intruder and Mom said “who are you and how did you get in here”? he smiled and said” just found the door unlocked and helped myself”. She started to her feet when he drew out a large hunting knife and said “ I think it would be best if everybody stayed calm. What I need is some cash and I will be on my way”. I looked at Mom and she had a scared look on her face. She stammered “ I don’t have much money but it is in my purse over there if you want it, just don’t hurt us.” He looked to where she had pointed and walked over and picked up the purse dumping it’s contents on the table. There was a little over $20 there and he picked it up. Then he turned and grinned at her. that will really help and I want to thank you. She glared at him and said “ just get out of here and leave us alone if you don’t care, you’ve got what you came for.” He stuffed the money in his pocket and looked at me and then over at her. He said “ nice little f****y gathering you have here with just the 2 of you”. No man around anywhere that I can see.
