Rose’s husband simply refused to go with her to the birthday celebration her family was throwing for her grandmother. That’s how it all happened, had he gone there would be no story to tell. But he had told her it was too far to go; he couldn’t miss three days’ work just to see an old lady who never seemed to remember who he was.
