I looked straight at her and she tried to avoid my gaze. "Why do you stay?" There was a long pause. "Lisa?" She sighed. "He makes me stay. I can't bear to think what would happen if I left." She couldn't bring herself to say the words. "He... He has pictures. Pictures of me. He said he'll send them to my parents if I don't do what he says. And I know that those pictures would break my parents' hearts." It was heartbreaking. Blackthorn had persuaded Lisa that she could make some money as a glamour model posing for him to take pictures which he would sell to private collectors. She could make enough money to start her own business as a masseuse. When he had the pictures the story changed. She lived in a tiny room at the top of the hotel and worked all the hours God sends to pay Blackthorn's blackmail demands. He was evil. Lisa was stuck there and no one--until now--knew why. I stroked her hair. "Don't worry sweetheart – it will be OK. We can fix this. Really, we can." A tear slid down Lisa's face. On the one hand I think she knew I was sincere but on the other it all seemed pretty helpless to her.
