I wanted a shower. I wanted rid of the smell and the spunk and the thought of that man overpowering me. What kept me going was his comeuppance. And that was approaching. When I came out of the bathroom, I found that Lisa had made another cup of tea, but she’d gone off to finish cleaning the bedrooms on the third floor. Just as I finished getting dressed, the door opened and there were Jen, Mike and Saul. “Holy shit!” Exclaimed Jen. “Are you okay?” That was Saul. I laughed and wrapped my hands around my teacup. “Well, I suppose I am.” “What the fuck happened to you?” I frowned. “Well, if you didn’t expect to find me here, where did you expect to find me?” Jen cleared her throat. Saul and Mike both seemed a little shifty. “Hmm,” I started. “Did you expect to find me tied naked to a tree in the woods?” By the looks on their faces, they clearly did. “I see. So I have you lot to thank for that do I?” “Don’t you remember?” asked Jen. “Remember what?” “Last night in the pub?” “I remember we had a lot to drink… We got quite loud.” “You don’t remember the forfeit game?” “Hmm. No, I don’t. But I don’t think it takes a genius to put two and two together. Are you saying I was tied naked to a tree as a forfeit in a drinking game?” Now they looked really shifty. “Wow.” I took a sip of tea. “Hardcore game.” “Are you okay?” Asked Saul. “Define okay.” There was a pause. I laughed. “I am not permanently scarred. But remind me not to play any more drinking games with you lot.” They all ...
... seemed relieved. Jen sat down on the edge of the bed, Mike and Saul found chairs. “What time is it?” I asked. I still hadn’t really worked out the timeline of the day. Mike looked at his watch. “Five o’clock.” “Hair of the dog?” I asked. “Sure.” Said Saul. “But I am not buying.” I asserted. There were nods. “And we need to be back by eight.” “Why?” “I’ll explain over a G and T.” ...ooOoo… We tried a different pub this time, and had a much more leisurely drink. I explained, to open mouths, what had happened in the woods, and, more importantly, what had happened with Lisa and Blackthorn since. Jen explained that the three of them had slept in our room last night and, later in the morning, had gone looking for me. We could only work out that they must have passed by me as I slept curled up next to the path. When they hadn’t found me where they expected to, they didn’t really know what to do. They scoured the woods, went up to the top of Orrest Head and then tried to retrace their steps. If I hadn’t been back at the hotel, they were ready to call the police. In the scheme of things, I suppose I was glad it hadn’t come to that. The gin helped relieve me of the last vestiges of my hangover. It also loosened my tongue enough that I could tell the others what had happened with Blackthorn and what was going to happen at eight o’clock. Mike seemed particularly delighted at the prospect of getting back at Lisa’s, and his, tormentor. We ordered some food in the pub, and I realised I was ...
