She needed to get out more, and I needed Mum’s attention spread between both her daughters. There was a lull in our conversation, and we just sat there; the television was now just background noise. Then Ella told me there was a guy whom she liked. But she wasn’t sure. When I asked who he was, it turned out it was someone I didn’t know. It still felt strange having these adult conversations with my sister rather than the normal bickering.
