The next morning, Jamie's mother was to return. It was Saturday, and everyone slept in.

Jamie's arms wrapped around Beth. He wanted to pull her tight, but didn't. "Thank you, Auntie," he said softly. "For everything."

Beth was afraid someone might recognize her desire. She pulled away.

"You are welcome, Jamie." Beth smiled. "And, the pool is always available to you."

Beth silently hoped he would take up her offer.
