Mark Thompson had a regular morning routine on the days he had to work, and one of the things that was high on his list was his morning coffee. Without his daily caffeine, his day was ruined before it even got started. So on his way to work, he made a point of stopping by his favorite little coffee shack, the Coffee Cabana, every morning. He liked this place because it was handy to his regular route to the office. The coffee was good, and the girls who worked there were friendly. He was friendly to all the girls who worked at the coffee shack, but one in particular, Giselle, was his favorite. Whenever he came by, he would ask if she was working and if so, he made sure she was the one who waited on him. He'd chat with her while his coffee was being made and ask her how business was, or how her day was going so far. She, in return, would always have a smile for him and would put a smiley face on his cup, wishing him a good day before he left. This pattern started shortly after he started working for the accounting firm, and it started out as just a friendly way to start the day. But as time went on, the conversations he and Giselle would have slowly got more personal. He found out that she was actually working two jobs - she would work at the Coffee Cabana five days a week from 5AM to 9AM during the morning rush. Then, on three days out of the week, she worked at the local Stop 'n' Save convenience store as a cashier from 5PM to 10PM. He also learned that in addition to her ...

Mark learned that Giselle was raised by her aunt after both her mother and father passed away, and that she had moved to Seattle from Oklahoma when they did. One Friday, on his way to get his morning coffee, Mark decided to ask Giselle if she'd like to go out sometime. He thought they were well-enough acquainted and friends enough so that she might agree to it. So as he pulled up to the window, Mark summoned the courage to ask. "Hi Giselle, how is your morning going today?" he said. "Hi Mark. Oh, it's kinda slow today, actually. Is it a holiday or something?" she asked. "Not that I'm aware of. Maybe it's just a slow day for some reason." "I guess so. Well here is your coffee, hon. Have a good day and a great weekend!" she said, after putting her trademark smiley face on his cup. "Speaking of the weekend, I was wondering... um... would you... would you like to go out this weekend?" he said, stammering a little. She stood there for a minute as if thinking about it. Mark was starting to get worried and then she suddenly snapped out of it. "Sure, when did you want to go out?" she asked. "How about tomorrow night, unless you are busy?" "No, tomorrow night is fine. What time and what did you have in mind?" "How about seven tomorrow night? There's a nice Mexican restaurant that just opened up I was wanting to try out - unless you don't like Mexican food." "Oh, I love Mexican food! That sounds ...
