Since it was quite warm out, she put on a pair of sheer white cotton pajamas, and got into bed. Even though she was only 15, Jen was beginning to notice what a nice body she had. The boys at school had certainly begun to notice already. Wanting to make sure that his daughter was safe, Mr. Crane tucked Jen into bed just like he had done when she was much younger. She liked that her father was doting on her. He turned her light out and finished up his work, and turned in early. It was eerily quiet since he was by himself, and although he enjoyed his peace, he missed his wife. It was the first night that they had spent apart in many years. Although Jen was in bed, she could hear her Dad snoring. She thought it was funny how loud he was. She turned over, and covered her head with her comforter, and eventually fell asleep. After three hours, however, Jen started to have nightmares. She really missed her Mom, and thought about all of the bad things that could happen to her mom when she was not home. She was suddenly stricken with terror. She sat up in bed for about 15 minutes but when the fears would not subside, she thought about going to wake her Dad. Now, since Jen was 15, she didn’t want her Dad to think she was immature, but she was so scared, even if there was no good reason. Jen got out of her bed quietly. ... the room, and when she looked at herself, she contemplated putting on something less revealing than the sheer, lightweight pajamas that she was wearing. “It’s the middle of the night, and besides, he’s my Dad,” she reasoned to herself. The mere fact that she was thinking that her Dad could do anything untoward made her upset with herself. She knocked on her Dad’s door, just long enough to wake him. “I can’t sleep, Dad,” said Jen. Her father thought it was a little strange that his 15 year old daughter was waking him in the middle of the night, but he knew how much she missed her mom. Maybe she was just feeling a little lonely. He was hesitant to let her stay in the room with him, so they sat on the edge of the bed talking for 20 minutes. When her Dad saw that Jen wasn’t calming down, he agreed, reluctantly to let her sleep in the bed with him, as long as she went right to sleep. He had to go to work in the morning, and couldn’t be kept awake. For the next 30 minutes, Jen’s Dad lay awake, staring at the ceiling, thinking about the moral implications of letting his 15 year old daughter sleep in the bed with him. Nobody would ever find out, and besides, it was his daughter. When he finally noticed that she had fallen asleep, he was able to rest easier. Well – that wouldn’t last long.
