The taxi ride wasn’t long. Chrissy’s party was at rented a ballroom and party house near her condo, and her condo was close to mine. As we got there, I could see Alex shifting in his chair. “Dude,” I said. I put my hand on his leg reassuringly. “Relax.” He looked down at my hand. “Yeah,” he said. He switched his nervous face to a playful one. “I’m good man,” he said, as he playfully ruffled my hair. He’s been doing that a lot lately, even after I got my hair cut. And well… I liked it. We got to the party house. Holy shit it was huge. We saw the ballroom. Holy shit that was bigger. There were a good 100 to 150 people there. And it was still just seven o clock. “Just a few people from Westfield!?” said Alex. “Uhh yup,” I replied. I walked towards the house. The music wasn’t on too loud, and most of the people were heading towards the ballroom. I stopped when I realized that Alex wasn’t walking next to me. I looked back. “Dude, what’s up? Dinner’s in like five,” I said. I saw he was sweating. Omg this is serious, I thought. I got closer to him. “Yo,” I said. “I can’t go in there,” he said. “Why?” I asked. “CUZ man! Look at all those people! I can’t dude, I just can’t…” He looked really sad. “And what, you think I’m just gonna leave you here?” I said, annoyed. “You can always go without me… everyone knows you…” he said quietly. “FUCK no!” I said. “I’m going without you, so you’re going, now!” I pulled him from his arm. Normally, he could’ve pulled back and thrown me a few yards ...
... back with his strength, but he didn’t. One we were walking again, I put my arm around his neck. “Dude, it’s ok. Yeah, there are a lot of people. So what? We’re still gonna have an awesome time!” He nervously laughed but didn’t say anything. “Look, there’s Chrissy!” She seemed to be having a conversation with Jennifer. We walked to her. “Hey guys! My god I thought you guys were gonna pull a no show! And you know exactly what I’d do to you if you didn’t show up at my party, Vasquez.” Vasquez was my last name, and Chrissy always calls me by that ever since we broke up. Yup, we dated. We dated for almost two years, but well, things happened and we broke up. But afterwards we decided to stay as friends. She’s been calling me Vasquez ever since. “Well, you do seem to have quite the company tonight,” I said to her. “I know right,” she responded. “All of Westfield is here, and almost half of Bridges. A few from Alacaster, some from Greenwick, even people from Northset!” “Northset?” I asked. That made me nervous. “How’d you get people from there? Northset students hate everyone from Westfield.” Ever since both football teams decided to have an all out brawl on Westfield’s field, both schools hate each other’s guts. And well, I’m a wide receiver on the team. Not my best positon. Of course Chrissy was oblivious to that. “I don’t know,” she said. “I guess they just wanted to see if the party was worth all the hype.” People have been talking about Chrissy’s party since last fall, and form ...
