In 1983, I became seriously ill. I spent a great deal of time in and out of hospital, so I missed a number of notable happenings. In 1985, Alice and her daughter Sandra came to visit. They stayed long enough for Alice to become very friendly with Jean, and from then on, Jean went to visit her each year. Reading between the lines from the little Jean did say about her visits, it came as no surprise when Alice got divorced in 1989. In 1991 Alice and Sandra came to stay for good, much to Jean and Pat's delight, . My recovery took a long time, but I had the most accommodating ministering angels I could wish for, so life wasn't all-bad. The 'angels' decided that instead of travelling into town for their hairdressing appointments, they'd arrange for their favourite hairdresser to come to them. I should have realized that there was more to it than that, but when I met her, the penny dropped fairly quickly. Their favourite hairdresser was Lydia. The first time she came to the house she was talking to Jean as they walked into the living room, but on seeing me, she stopped and said: "I'm sorry, but I don't do men." When I replied "that's alright love, neither do I." She laughed, and I knew that we'd get on. It was soon obvious that there was more to her visits than mere hairdressing. I had wondered about the frequency of her visits, and eventually all became clear. Someone had to keep Sandra occupied while Lydia 'looked after' whoever it was she was treating that day. I agreed without hesitation. We had the room, and they obviously 'enjoyed' each other's company, especially as I was certainly in no condition to satisfy any of their urges. From the sounds I'd been hearing, I knew for certain that Lydia was getting all her urges satisfied. Date: 7th February 2011. Pat died, peacefully, during her after-lunch sleep, so life ceased to be the wonderful experience it had become. Date: 10th April 2011. I decided that my diary had run its course because I had nothing interesting left to say. I was no longer happy, so I decided that I should remove myself from their lives. I did this in a way that ensured everyone’s welfare was secure. I sold the house, and the proceeds from the sale plus all my other assets amounted to a considerable sum in cold cash. I gave the group half, and that ensured that they could move to a place of their choosing and lead the lives they chose. Once the group settled in their new location, I moved away. We talk regularly to keep abreast of each other’s lives, but I do not interfere. I now live in an ex-farmhouse, in a sparsely populated area by the sea. It is twenty miles to the nearest town and my nearest neighbour is half a mile away. I love it. I bought it at an auction, and as no one wanted an old farmhouse by the sea, I got it at a good price. My ...
