1. Leningrad

There's a kind of rush-hush in the pale night sky... I can write my name in my smoky breath. And the moon comes up and mocks my faded sigh. It's midnight lost in Leningrad... I'll be late home again. Her flat is cozy and it's warm. I never meant to cause you pain. I never meant you any harm. And may God forgive me Because you won't. And may God forgive me. Because I don't. We sip vodka by the gas fire. My eyes avoid her nylon-stockinged thighs. She smiles and takes me by my hand, To her single bed and its promised promise dire. She's everything I never dared to dream. She doesn't do it as well as you do. She bites upon me as she comes. Which only later reminds me of you. And may God forgive me Because you won't. And may God forgive me. Because I don't. You are asleep when I get home. I slide in bed, you do not wake. You move across and snuggle me. I hear the sound of my heart break. I'll tell you in the morning... I'll pack my stuff and go. And I don't even love her. But like you said you told me so. The moon illuminates the clouds, The pale night freezes Leningrad. The cold surrounds me like a shroud. I stumble home to break your heart. And may God forgive me Because you won't. And may God forgive me. Because I don't.
